Trouble Breathing =(

All of the meds prior to the prednisolone prescription

Ugh. We got a call midday on Friday from panicked in-laws saying that Kasen had been crying all morning, had no appetite, and had a recent attack that left him with significant difficulty breathing even after doing the nebulizer TWICE. I had just gotten out of a meeting when our office manager mentioned that Ken called, twice. Everyone in the office knows that I have forbidden Ken from calling the office unless it is an emergency, and so I called back frantic - I had deja vu all over again from a month and a half ago when I had heard about what had happened to my mother in law (she was an innocent by standing victim of a shooting).

Turned out Kasen WAS getting worse. His cough sounded different and the nebulizer wasn't helping as much. So we brought him in to his doctor's office, which given the circumstances he was actually having so much fun (dinosaurs and a fish tank help, as does awesome animal murals in each of the rooms, along with books and toys). He talked to everyone, waved hi and bye, followed all directions to a T. He ended up being prescribed with an additional steroid, called prednisolone to take orally on top of the albuterol and budesonide that was being inhaled. When we got home he was starving and constantly asking for food but was also having such a severe coughing bout that he started wheezing and was short of breath to a point where I really think he couldn't breathe. We gave him the 5ml required dose of the prednisolone but we didn't see improvement immediately do we decided to use the nebulizer. As soon as he started to breathe in the budesonide and albuterol mixture you could tell the sigh of relief that he could actually breathe.

Aside from the respiratory related drugs he is also using desonide and muipirocin for his mouth sores that just dont want to go away and extra fluoride for preventative measures from his pediatric dentist. Poor kid. Such a rough ending to winter!
