Sleep Regression at Four Months!?

Sad face. The very last time Baby Kasen slept through the night was last weekend (11/12). Ever since then he has been waking at least once in the middle of the night looking for food. At first I thought it was only temporary, but once it became a pattern in the last week it has me worried - i.e. because he is growing and needs more nutrition, is my breast milk not enough to keep him full through the night? does he therefore need cereal? or is this simply a growth spurt where he needs an extra feeding in the middle of the night, and this is only temporary?

I'm trying to get to the bottom of it, to at least understand what it is, and my internet searches wind up with those who say it's one or the other. Last night for example we put him down at 9:30pm; he woke at 12am and proceeding to drink 5 oz, and woke again at 5am and drank another 5 oz. These waking periods remind me of his sleeping schedule when he was a newborn up until 2.5 months old, which is when he began to miraculously sleep through the night.

It's frustrating because we just transitioned him to his crib given that he was sleeping through the night...and now that he isn't, part of me wants to co-sleep him again. Sigh. Mommy woes!
