Happy 2nd Birthday, Kasen!

Dearest Kasen,

Happy 2nd Birthday!

Wow! How time flies!

You're amazing in every way and are more than we ever asked for. You're affectionate, loving and caring; a troublemaker and a tease; flirty and sweet; respectful and (generally;) well behaved, and sometimes shy. It takes you 30 minutes to warm up to a new environment and after that it's history! You enjoy teaching and feeding others and you love to share your food, drinks, and toys with others. You make your elders happy by acknowledging by their proper names. We love your huge smile. You talk nonstop and never cease to amaze us. The sound of your laugh is magical and delights us. You are insanely ticklish, especially right behind your ears, under your pits, on your belly and your sides and your back (really, anywhere). You understand and speak English, Cantonese and Toisanese interchangeably, know your animals, insects, body parts, numbers, alphabet, colors, food, plants, and countless inanimate objects. Your favorite verb is "hor" (want). Needless to say, your vocabulary is huge - we're constantly surprised by how much you know and how much can say. By the way, if we haven't said it already, you loooove animals. Some of the newest animals you learned in the last week include "Yak" "Leopard" and "Deer." Your favorites include cow (ngau ngau), horse (mah mah), chicken (gai gai), duck (ngap ngap), turtle (guay guay), fish (ngui ngui), frog (wah wah), bird (jerk jerk), penguin (kay-ngor, though you also call it guin guin), elephant (jerng jerng), pig (jee jee), and owl (ow-woo). Again, nothing makes you happier than your animals! Unfortunately you love to "Da Ngai Ngai" while doing the Asian squat (hit ants.. we don't approve, but what can you do.).We think it's hilarious that you call "Octopus" "Applesauce." When you tell us you want two of something you always say "1, 2" and show both your index fingers. You understand the concept of a family - you love to bring together Daddy Cow and Baby Cow and Mommy Duck, Daddy Duck and Baby Duck and will point it out to us. You also like to make your animals "kiss!" You love the colors blue and green, but you will only choose green if there is no blue. Some of your favorite phrases are "Sup baby!" "Nice shoes!" and you like to be bossy and tell us to "Chor Jee" (sit here) or "Bai Jee" (put it here). Sometimes you say things that actually mean inappropriate things in Cantonese, like "Sup Hai Hai!" but we laugh it off anyway. Instead of calling yourself "baby" or your Chinese name "yang yang", last week you started to call yourself "Kasen." Your favorite foods at the moment include hot chocolate, peanut butter, bar bar (granola bar), cherries, blueberries, peaches, strawberries (you call them badi!) radish, chinese winter melon, black beans, anything with honey, and cha (tea). It is honestly ridiculous how much you love tea. You finally are enjoying wearing your sunglasses and love to wear them, put them on your head and show everyone. Your best friend is your cousin Jayden - you are always asking about "Hai Yiu Yiu Dai Dai" (see little brother Jayden). You are awesome in every way. We love you so freaking much and cannot wait what the years to come bring.

Love,
Mama + Baba
