[20 weeks] Nesting Instincts - Baby's Nursery

Over the last few weeks with careful planning, we've begun to avidly plan junior's (we naturally started calling him this until we decide on a name) nursery. This means the basics - the crib, mattress, furniture, changing table, and essential items such as the infant car seat and the stroller which I will cover in future posts because it is a more involved topic. To also satiate my husband's craving for all things technological, we also got junior the 4MOMs baby rocker, the mamaroo and its bathing system called cleanwater. I think we'll have one post just dedicated to the 4MOMs gear since it's so forward thinking and just very different from what's already out there. For junior's nursery, we're planning on redoing the floors to a bamboo flooring, have mostly white furniture, and focusing on a bright, modern, but organic theme. The inspiration is coming from the following modern nursery I found by perusing google images:

While maybe a little too modern for most folks, I love the combination of white and brown and the splash of color.

We ordered our crib from Babyletto, the Mercer 3-in-1 convertible crib with toddler rail in white/espresso. It's modern, sturdy, is well rated, and we love the fact that it can become a toddler bed as junior grows. Double duty! We're glad that we ordered it early on - according to our trusty BabyBargains book some cribs take forever to special order. They recommend that parents order from big box retailers by week 20. While we ordered from Amazon - there is peace of mind knowing that junior will have somewhere safe and cozy to do what he will do best for the first few months (up to 16 hours a day!) - snooze!
I didn't want anything babyish or too blue, so I looked for color combinations of blue, light blue, green, khaki, brown, and white as well as more organic and neutral colors such as yellow, light green, and khaki. Since I've always been a fan of DwellStudio, known for its modern textiles, but wasn't crazy about the price tag, we went for the DwellStudio for Target baby line with quality that is just as great with prints just as adorable.

Because junior will be born in the summer, I couldn't help also ordering him a light blanket in case the comforters are simply too hot. We got the Skip Hop blanket - so cute with all of its colors.

As for the remaining furniture - we've decided to go the IKEA route, and opt for all white as it is happier and brighter (at least we think so). We're debating between the Aneboda collection and the Hemnes collection. For the price of a Hemnes six-drawer chest, we can get the Aneboda collection three-drawer chest and a wardrobe with lots of cash leftover.

I can't wait until we get all of the components and can begin putting it all together!
