A letter to our most amazing, most fabulous son, Kasen Alexander "Jia Yang" Zhao:
Happy 8 months little honey! Mommy + Daddy love you lots. You're talking non-stop now, saying lots of "ah wah wah, ah da da, ah ba ba, ah ma ma, and nai nai nai!" You have suddenly found a newfound appreciation for your blankie (it's a Pottery Barn Kids blue sherpa stroller blanket). Like your daddy you love super soft things, so we aren't surprised. You love to bite your blankie, when you're sleepy you rub it on your face, and more importantly, you love to clutch it between your hands and fall asleep with it. You figured out how to self-soothe and can fall asleep on your own, and are a much better night sleeper now. You made mommy and daddy very happy because they are no longer sleep deprived. You are also a champ about napping. You consistently nap 2 hours 2X a day, and may also sneak in a 1 hour nap in the late afternoon if you had lots of extra fun playing.
You started eating solids at 5.5 months, and now you just love to eat. You open your mouth wide whenever it's mealtime. Your favorites are pear, mango, and banana. And you love your baby yogurt - banana, peach, blueberry. You don't mind chicken as long as it's combined with fruit - usually pear or apple. You aren't too crazy about your veggies but you will eat them if we mix it with fruit (peas, string beans, butternut squash, sweet potatoes). And you love sipping water. When we ask you if you want some "sui sui" you get so excited and open your mouth wide! And you still love your milk. We love to watch you grab milk and hold the bottle. You also really like your puffs and freeze dried yogurt bites. You love to chew, and you will smile at us while you do it, so we're going to start making your meals a little chunkier! You also love to read books and turn pages. We read you several books every night in hopes of starting early an appreciation for reading.
We took you on your first vacation when you were 7.5 months old and you loved it. You loved being on the plane, you loved going somewhere warm. You love the feeling of sand but don't like the surf. You didn't mind being in the pool, and we think that as you get older you will enjoy swimming. We are ready to fill up your passports with different country stamps, because we are convinced you will love to travel as much as Mommy + Daddy do.
You are such a well behaved baby. You very rarely cry, and when you do it's for good reason. You are the master at complaining though and we always laugh at you. Nevertheless, somehow you are constantly smiling and giggling and squealing. And not to mention flirting. You know how to work those eyebrows! You are insanely curious and want to grab/touch everything. You get excited when we open the refrigerator - you like to grab Aibo's treats (string cheese) from the fridge! You are furiously trying to crawl now, and your butt is always in the air as you try. We know you can do it! And you just mastered the pincer grasp today. Good job Kasen!
