The Pet Chronicles

Kasen went from obsessing over a pet vegetable for the week to graduating to having a new "pet" every day. One day it was the pizza magnet; the next day it's one of the toy animals. Last night was the Playmobil Reindeer (with Antlers). However, Kasen brought it over to my in-laws but had forgotten to bring it home. Last night's interaction went something like this:

[After climbing into bed, he decides he needs his dinosaur. Then realizing the dinosaur he wants isn't there, defaults to his favorite reindeer. Favorite for the last two days, that is.]

The dreaded missing "reindeer (the one with antlers!)"

Kasen: "Where are you, reindeer?"
Mommy: "Kasen, reindeer is sleeping over at Yeh Yeh's (Grandpa's) house tonight. You can see him tomorrow."
Kasen: "Noooo! Kasen want reindeer!"
Mommy: "Kasen, you can see reindeer tomorrow."
Kasen: "Ba-ba, go to yeh yeh's house to get reindeer!"
Daddy: "Kasen, it's dark out now. You can see reindeer tomorrow."
Kasen: "Noooo! Kasen want reindeer!"

[Ken and I give eachother knowing looks. Time to figure out how to avert disaster. We start rummaging around his buckets of dinosaurs and animals.]

Mommy: "Kasen, how about this stegosaurus?"
Kasen shakes his head.
Daddy: "Kasen, how about this tyrannosaurus rex?"
Kasen shakes his head.
Mommy: "Kasen, how about the mommy or baby reindeer? It's the same!"
Kasen shakes his head.
Ken: "How about your crab from Atlantis? You love the crab!"
Kasen shakes his head.
Mommy: "Cow? Chicken? Pig? Squirrel? Owl? Giraffe?"
Kasen looks thoughtful. He leans down into the Three Sprouts bucket of duplo legos and pulls out the small Giraffe figurine.
Kasen: "Giraffe!"

[Satisfied, Kasen saunters to his bed. With his giraffe happily in his hand.]

Kasen: "Mommy, Kasen want baby horse."
Mommy: "Kasen, you already have your giraffe."
Kasen: "No! I want baby horse. Mommy get baby horse."

[Clearly to him it's a life or death situation. I sigh, defeated. I go get his baby horse. I hand Kasen said baby horse. Kasen smiles happily.]

Kasen: "Thank you Mommy!"
